  • Will the sidebar design work well with lots of data? (say, in the pim realm)
    • The supposition is that it supports lots of data better than existing sidebars.
  • Will some form of hierarchy be necessary to support lots of data, lots of projects, etc.?
    • Yes, although we will have to be careful so that users don't confuse "hierarchical" UI affordances with a hierarchical data model.
    • Arguably, most people only click on about 10 folders in their sidebar regularly. Users should be able to tag items ad-hoc, but not all tags are collections.
    • Do we get more bang for the buck by having sections in the summary pane?
  • How will the sidebar design work with IMAP in the longer term?
    • This depends on how we define "work with IMAP". It may be hard
  • How will the entire extended universe of information fit into the sidebar/kind filter design?
    • This may need more preparation...
    • Kinds will be extended to include:
      • Resources: Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations
      • Media: Books, Music, Movies, Pictures
      • Directories: Contacts, Product catalogs, Profiles
    • There are 3 Kinds of collections:
      • Generic: collections around a concept
      • Who
      • Project
      • Timeframe
  • Sidebar can't be the affordance for organizing all of your data. Instead, it's a top ten list.
