Automatic Journal Entry

This is a good feature in Outlook. It keeps track of emails and even other Office documents used.

I agree, also Chandler could go beyond recording entries and allow auto journalling and auto scheduling of incoming and outgoing material.

Everytime an email or instant message comes in or is created with a deadline or meeting time associated with it, there should be an ability to highlight the time and have it automatically pop up in the calendar (and/ or tasks list, journal etc). Also, there could be rules for particular types of email/items. This should all be able to be done from the original item with a right click or popup.

Unlike Outlook, one item should not require you to enter 3 views (open calendar then paste, open tasks then paste) or have different reminder systems and each reference to the iterm should bring up the whole item and any added material when you click on it (the information on the meeting should not breed, it should just have more ways of accessing it).

For example, a meeting is referred to in an email that comes in for Bob from the Buerocrap agency. Bob highlights the time and clicks the checkbox next to calendar (to put it in his calendar), clicks the checkbox next to journal (to record the email on his file system) and clicks the checkbox next to tasks (to add it to his tasks) from a pop up box. He also clicks a priority colour (a low faint grey because most stuff Bob gets is crap but he can't easily avoid it) and a reminder time.

Later Bob looks at his tasks (to do list) and clicks on the Buerocrap item and up pops the email (this also works in calendar). Bob also sets up a rule for Buerocrap agency items, they all appear in the same colour, all have the same reminder times, all get prompted to be journalled and put in the calendar. Later when Bob rises in his organisation , Bobworld, and has staff the rule prompts Bureocrap emails with times to be put in Graham's calendar. However, the actual meeting where a decision is to be made (once every 3 years) has a different colour and different reminder time. This calendar item is also sent to Xena the head of Bobworld with a recommended action (approve items 1-3, ignore 4 and 5, and add 6, a plan to get rid of Buerocrap through diminished funding by siphoning it off to Bobworld through stealth just before the end of the meeting, when everyone will agree to anything so they can go home).

Auto appearance, or at least easy allocation of items to calendar, journal (or even better the file storage system), tasks etc would help with the main tasks of most people in business i.e. note, respond, remind, record, allocate, coord, propose etc.

Hope this helps, Cheers.
