Discussion

"Mentions" metrics

  • Ducky mentioned needing to use Google API to get the metrics for {blog, news, Web} mentions of Chandler/OSAF.
  • Pieter mentioned that Google issued a cease and desist to someone who was using the Google API; Ducky is pretty sure that we won't run afoul of Google for what we want to do.

StarterProjects project

  • Pieter suggested making a StarterProjects project where people could fill out a form and get a URL for a custom RSS feed (e.g. "tell me every time a page with the words 'Community Goals' changes". Pieter to write up the project on StarterProjects.
  • As the above RSS pages are search-term-based and not page-name-based, perhaps we could have a related project to get notified when a particular page or particular pages that gets changed. Pieter to write up the project on StarterProjects.
  • We could perhaps do a StarterProjects project for "mention" metrics.

Responsibilities

We had a little discussion about articulating publicly what our responsibilities (values) are. (Ducky was frustrated by not having an easy place to point people when she saw a posting where someone was concerned that OSAF might be changing the licensing terms such that OSAF would get rich off of other people's work...) We talked about perhaps having a Community FAQ that lays out positions and intentions on how OSAF will interact with the community, including a slice of the licensing information, discussion of how being a non-profit means that the money must go back to non-profit, etc. Some pf the questions are answered on the product FAQ and/or organization FAQ on the Web site, so elements from there could be used. Ducky to make a draft of a Community FAQ for review by the group.

Users Groups

Ducky very briefly described the different users' groups that she's been to.

0.4 Goals

We discussed the 0.4 Goals. Many of the goals from CommunityGoalsZeroPointFour are going to be incorporated into other groups' 0.4 goals, leaving the CWG to facilitate those goals and to work on "big picture" questions.

We added a few things to CommunityGoalsZeroPointFour, see that page.

Many of the community goals end up being dependencies on other groups' goals. For example, it doesn't make sense to do an IRC Office Hour to QA the UI until the UI is better fleshed out. Ducky to talk to Katie about when it would be reasonable to schedule that slot.

Action items for next week's meeting

  • Pieter to figure out how to do voiceover, format translation for screen-capture video for Mac and Linux.
  • Pieter to look at Creative Commons licenses and take first whack at which one would be good for Web/Wiki.
  • Pieter to write up StarterProjects project for custom RSS feeds.
  • Ducky to write scripts for several more metrics, including wiki RSS hits.
  • Ducky to write up first pass of Community FAQ.
  • Ducky to write up StarterProjects project for "mentions" metrics.
  • Ducky to talk to Katie re QA Office Hours.
  • Ducky to follow through on adding wiki RSS feeds to ZaoBao.
  • Ducky to write and post meeting notes.
  • Ducky to incorporate pieces of other groups' community goals into CommunityGoalsZeroPointFour.
  • Mitchell to talk to Siobhan to ask about academic research.
  • Mitchell to talk to other group leaders about incorporating community goals into their goals pages.
  • Group to finish 0.4 plan.
  • Group to come prepared next week to discuss what big-picture questions we should discuss.
